Over-connected?

Over-connected?

A Story by Jessica
"

Short pondering about my generation's extreme connections

"

Cell phones. Texting. Email. Blogs. Skype. Instant messages. Facebook. Instagram. Pinterest. Google Plus. Twitter.  LinkedIn. Wow, reading that list makes me ask "Are we too linked in?" Over-connected, maybe?

I  mean I pretty much can't eat a meal with anyone without them checking their phone at least once. But I can't blame them really. How could they not when their phone vibrates every time they receive a friend request or get tagged in a post? Oh! Hang on, someone just liked my status. . . ok, where was I? Oh yeah, over-connected.

Have you ever wondered that, though? It's like everyone else's life is infiltrating ours through all our networking and mobile devices. And it seriously takes me at least a hour to go through all my email and social media. That's just checking notifications and messages, no newsfeed scrolling! But here's what really bothers me. When I'm spending time with someone for the sole purpose of spending time with them,(you know, like at parties, get-togethers, etc.) and they get on Instagram or facebook! Seriously? Be with the people you're with! At least, hey! Someone sent me a pin! . . . ok, I'm back.

So, this could just be a silly venting session, but I thought it was a reasonable question. Sometimes I get sick of being so connected with everyone. Checking all my sites and replying to all my messages literally wears me out. Hmmm. . . maybe I'll turn all my devices off today and not check, oh, look,my friend texted me. He told her what?! No way! Sorry, I gotta go answer this text.

Perfect score in truthfullness lol. I like to read these sort of vent sessions. It's a good reminder to me that I'm not eh only person that thinks these things(in other cases, that people have different view on the same thing, either way it's interesting). In any case I find myself asking the same question. That is such a turnoff for me when hanging out with a friend. They show up, you talk shortly, you make your greetings, then they get on their phone. Not just a few times but the whole visit. Just stay home at that point.

Haha for real! It makes me very conscious about doing it to others. Thanks for reading!
Such an honest write and life is all about playing with your toys...such as your phones and laptop. I truly wish can go back in time and for once can have some peace of mind:)

Yep, pretty much. Seems like we are glued to our devices.
Thanks for the review!
I agree with everything you wrote. Todays social world has been crippled and has grown rather fake, if you know what I mean. Cellular technology right now is at its highest form, but I think it is more of an epidemic. People--practically every person--have become obsessed with their phones and abuse them like a chronic drug addiction. But the last line was funny because its true, even as much as we may demote this new generation of social technology, we still indulge in it. Great read!
