Anticipation: The Night BeforeA Poem by lusoamericanI wrote this poem back in 2004 the day my oldest son was born.
The night before Anticipation climbs from the stomach Like butterflies on a blade of grass. It lightly skips up the spine Thousands of tiny legs They gently brush and tickle Tingling as a smile creeps up. She looks over the hill Where the surprise awaits Wiggling toes barely visible Little humps appear Like tiny gopher mounds. Evident excitement overshadowing The sad realization that This is the last night here, Everything has changed so much Time passing along too quick The excitement is so beautiful. Both eyes close slowly A low content sigh Slowly passes across Still smiling half giggling lips Nine months patiently waiting Brings a special blessing Sometime after 7 a.m. © 2008 lusoamerican |
