Chapter 94

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

At the end of practice. Gaz says “Ok, team. Good job. Go get a drink and wait for your parents, or whoever’s picking you up. Hayden, can I talk to you for a minute?”

Gaz and Hayden walk away. Ethan runs to Summer and Indigo, and says “Mommy, Momma, did you see me? Did I do good?”

Summer says “We saw. You did real good, buddy.”

“My new friend helped me. Do you want to meet her?”

            “Sure.”

Ethan runs off. Indigo says “Do you think he’s got a new girlfriend?”

            “It would not surprise me.”

Ethan comes back with Lorencz, and says “Mommy, Momma, this is Indie. She helped me with throwing.”

Lorencz says “You didn’t need much help, Ethan.” Lorencz turns to Summer and Indigo. “It was nice to meet you.”

            Indigo says “You too.”

Lorencz bends down to Ethan. “I’ve got to go, but I’ll see you soon.”

Ethan says “Will you be at the game?”

“I don’t know, but I’ll be at your next practice, ok?”

            “Ok.”

Lorencz holds her fist out to Ethan and Ethan bumps his fist against hers. “Bye.”

            “Bye, Indie.”

Lorencz runs off to the parking lot. Summer says “Ethan, do you need to tell Lexi about this?”

“No, Mommy. She’s only a friend. Where’s Cilla?”

Indigo says “She’s over there on the benches.”

            “Can I go see her?”

Hayden walks over and says “Excuse me, Summer is it? May I have a word?”

Summer says “Sure. Indi, do you mind?”

Indigo says “No. I’ll take Ethan to see Priscilla. Join us when you’re ready.”

Summer smiles and nods. Indigo and Ethan walk to Priscilla. Priscilla says “Leaving her with hormonal teenagers? Is that wise?”

“Wiser than leaving her with you.”

“That is true. Especially when she’s looking like that. How did you get through gym class?”

“We weren’t in the same one. Can you stop drooling?”

“Jealous?” Indigo shakes her head and points to Ethan. “Oops. Hey, Prince Ethan. You did so good today.”

Ethan says “Were you saying rude things about Mommy?”

            “Yes, but nice rude things.”

“How can rude things be nice?”

            “It’s a weird grown-up thing.”

“Ok. Do you really think I did good?”

“Have I ever lied to you?”

Ethan shakes his head and hugs Priscilla. Gaz says “He gets more attention than me.”

            “He’s cuter.”

            “Where’s Summer?”

Indigo says “Over there, talking to that Hayden girl.”

Priscilla says “They hugged. She hugged her.”

            “Jealous?”

“Yes.” Summer comes over. “Where’s my hug?”

Summer says “Looks like my boy’s got that covered.”

Indigo holds Summer’s hand and says “Everything ok?”

Summer nods. Gaz says “All the kids are gone. Who wants pizza? Indigo’s treat.”

            “Why am I paying?”

“I bought last time, and I’m a cheap sitter.”

            Summer says “Explain.”

“Maybe I could look after Ethan tonight so you two can have some alone time.”

            “That’s up to him.”

“What do you say, big man? Boys night in?”

Ethan says “But I make Mommy’s birthday breakfast.”

Priscilla says “We’ll get you home before midnight.”

            Summer says “Nine.”

            “Eleven?”

            “Ten.”

“Half ten. And I’ll bring food.”

            “Deal.”

Indigo says “Do I get a say in this?”

            “Pizza’s on me.”

            “Let’s go.”

Everyone walks to the cars. Ethan says “Uncle Gaz, is it stills boys night if Cilla’s with us?”

Gaz says “She can be our maid.”

Priscilla hits Gaz. Ethan giggles. Summer whispers to Indigo “Am I losing my son to your brother?”

Indigo says “No. I think you’re gaining a brother.”

            “That’s worse.”

            Indigo laughs.
