Chapter 83

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

At the hospital. Priscilla goes to the reception desk as Indigo stands behind her. Gaz comes running towards them and pulls Indigo into a hug. Indigo says “Where?”

Gaz says “This way.” Gaz looks at Priscilla. “Babe, you coming?”

Priscilla says “Family only.”

Indigo says “That includes you.”

“Really?”

Indigo nods. Priscilla follows Indigo and Gaz down the corridor and into a room. Henrietta is sat in a chair next to the bed. Wilson is laid in the bed. “Mama?” Henrietta stands up as Indigo rushes to her. Henrietta hugs Indigo. “What happened?”

Henrietta says “Heart attack.”

Gaz says “Tell her the rest, Mama.”

Indigo steps back and says “Rest of what?”

Henrietta says “Gareth, we’re going to wait.”

Lexi enters the room, dragging Summer behind her. Lexi says “What happened?”

“Heart attack.”

“Brought on by what?”

“I need you to stay calm while I tell you this. Especially you, Indigo.”

Indigo says “Why wouldn’t I be calm?”

Henrietta sighs. “It was Ric.”

“What?”

“He came home. Your father and I tried to talk to him. He got angry, pushed your father and ran out the house. Next thing, your father was on the floor.”

“Why would you let him in the house?”

Wilson says “He’s still our son.”

Gaz says “Pop?”

“I tried to convince him to go to the police, do whatever he had to clear his name.”

Indigo says “How can he clear his name when he’s guilty?”

“Innocent until proven otherwise. Isn’t that how it goes?”

“I thought we proved it to you?”

“Little kids can look like anyone.”

“What are you talking about?”

Summer says “Mr Wyatt, does he know about Ethan?”

Henrietta says “Summer, honey, Ric would not do anything to hurt a child.”

Indigo says “He hurt her.”

Summer says “Please, does he know about Ethan?”

Henrietta says “Yes.”

“I have to go.”

Lexi holds Summer’s hand and says “Don’t.”

“Let me go, Lexi.”

“No. Let Gaz go. You call your Mom.”

“I have to go.”

“I can’t let you do it.”

“You don’t have a choice.”

Summer pulls out of Lexi’s grasp and leaves the room. Indigo says “Lexi?”

Lexi says “Just go after her.”

Indigo goes after Summer. Gaz says “So, how long you going to be in here, Pop?”

Henrietta says “The doctor said a day or two.”

“Can we still throw Summer a birthday bash at yours?”

Priscilla says “And people says I’m insensitive.”

“I’ll do the food if Pop’s not up to it.”

Henrietta says “Of course you can.”

Wilson says “But no-one touches my barbeque except me.”

Lexi says “That’s if she even wants to be near us after this.”

Priscilla says “Indigo will calm he down.”

“I hope she can.”
