Chapter 53

Chapter 53

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo enters her office. Priscilla says “You’re late.”
Indigo jumps, turns around to face Priscilla and says “Jesus, Priscilla. Are you trying to give me a heart attack? What are you doing here?”
“Why are you late? You’re never late.”
“Over slept.”
“Not sleeping?”
“No comment. Why are you here?”
“I wanted to ask you to help me organise a celebration for Gaz on Friday. You know, after his first day.”
“And you need my help why?”
“Because I don’t know any of his friends. Plus, you’re his sister. That should be reason enough.”
“Fine. Is it a surprise?”
“So far. You going to bring Summer?”
“Why?”
“Aren’t you supposed to bring your girlfriend to parties?”
“She’s not my girlfriend.”
“What is she then? Friend? F**k buddy? What?”
“It’s not like that.”
“Then what is it like?”
“I don’t know. We haven’t talked about it, but last night…”
“Indigo, what’s going on?”
“She told me she loves me.”
“In less than a week? She fall fast.”
“Not really. I mean, we were together for two years before she left.”
“Did you say it back?” Indigo shakes her head. “Why not? Don’t you feel the same about her?”
“Yes.”
“So why didn’t you tell her?”
“I got caught up in the moment. We’d just had a misunderstanding.”
“What kind of misunderstanding?”
“Doesn’t matter. Shouldn’t you be at work?”
“I have flexible hours but I should get going. Party, Friday, yes?”
“We’ll see.”
“And your not-girlfriend?”
“I’ll ask.”
“All I’m asking you to do.” Priscilla walks to the door. “For what it’s worth, I think you should tell her. I can’t see her leaving again, and she makes you happy.”
“When are you going to tell my brother?”
“If my mouth wasn’t full, I may have told him this morning.”
Indigo scrunches up her face. “Go to work.”
“That’s what he said.”
“Goodbye, Priscilla.”
Priscilla leaves.
