Chapter 19

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo working in her office. There's a knock on the door. Indigo says "Come in."
Zarifa Grabowski enters and says "Is this a good time?"
"Of course. Take a seat. Do you want a drink?"
"Thanks. I'm fine." Zarifa sits down. "You read the information I brought you?"
"Yes. Sealed files, old school reports. Nothing fromt the last five years."
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about. This girl is a ghost. I'm not sure where you want me to go with this?"
"What's the most recent thing you have?"
""Everything was there but, if I remember correctly, a rehab order that's almost six years old."
"What kind of rehab?"
"Don't know. It's all sealed. I've got a friend at the clerks office looking into why."
"Thank you for doing this. I know you have other things you'd rather be doing."
"It's my job and, to be honest, this has got my interest. Never been ghost hunting before."
"So what's next?"
"That's your call."
"Meaning?"
"I could go digging, making noise, or I could run checks on the parents."
"Which would give you the fastest results?"
"Hard to say."
"I only know her mother's name."
"I'll start there."
Zarifa stands up. "Don't you need the name?"
"I've got it somewhere."
Indigo writes something down and passes it to Zarifa. "Here. That's everything I know about Sabrina."
Zarifa takes the paper. "I'll get right on it."
"If you could get me an address before 5pm tomorrow, that would be enough for me."
"What's the rush? You got money on this?"
"Something like that. Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"In your experience, why would someone become a ghost?"
"Well, as every legal document I've found is sealed, in this case it's not because she's a criminal. So that leaves crazy or in hiding. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of trauma behind this."
"What kind of trauma?"
"Could be anything. Want me to look into that too?"
"No."
"As soon as I find anything, I'll let you know."
Zarifa leaves. "What kind of trauma could make you leave me?"
