Chapter 16

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo in her office, staring at the computer screen. Iona walks in and says "Hey. You ready?"
Indigo says "Ready for what?"
"We're getting food. My treat."
"Nope. Nothing springing to mind."
Iona sits down. "What's wrong with you?" We spoke this morning."
"No we didn't."
"Yes, we did. I sat right here."
"This morning my friend was sat there. I don't know who you are."
"What?"
"How long have you known?"
"Known what?"
"Tell me the truth ot get the f**k out."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Last chance."
"Can you at least give me a clue what I've meant to have done?"
Indigo turns the computer screen towards Iona. "That a big enough clue?"
Iona looks at the screen. "Indigo, s**t, I can explain."
"Then explain. Fast."
"I was trying to protect you."
"Did I ask you to?"
"No but..."
"But nothing. You lied to me. You knew where she was this whole time and you didn't tell me."
"I didn't know where she was. I saw her and tried to speak to her."
"Bullshit. She knew someone, one of my friends, would have a problem with me finding her. She knew it was you. How?"
"Where did you get that? Did she send it to you?"
"No she didn't. Answer my question."
"Indigo, please."
"Please what?"
"Stop treating me like a suspect."
"Why should I? You've tried everything to convince me seeing her again would be a bad idea."
"That's because it is."
"Bad for who? Me or you?"
"She hurt you once, she'll do it again."
"But she hasn't lied to me."
"She's playing games with you. She's got you chasing after her like a maniac."
"Maniac?"
"You talked to a stranger in the park."
"My choice. She didn't want me looking for her. She wanted us to meet in a public place."
"How considerate of her. She always like that?"
"Don't you dare."
"I'm not allowed an opinion now?"
"You can have an opinion, but keep it to yourself. You're good at that. Maybe I should just ask her."
"Why don't you? Or is she not answering her phone?"
"Get out."
"Fine. I'll call you tomorrow, when you've calmed down."
"Don't bother. Unless you're going to give me the answers to my questions." Iona leaves. Indigo turns the screen back to look at it. "Why is she so angry at you?"
