Chapter 7

Chapter 7

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo and Yeardleigh in Indigo's office eating lunch. Yeardleigh says "The same thing happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago, except they were led directly to whoever had her phone."
"Really?"
"Yeah. She was telling me about it a few days ago."
"What else did she say?"
"That she's not heard from them since."
"Would you ask your friend about it again? Get more detail?"
"Sure. I'll try her now." Yeardleigh takes her phone out and calls. "Have you tried ringing them since?"
"Voicemail."
"Try off the office phone. Oh, hey, sorry, one sec."
Yeardleigh goes to the far end of the office. Indigo picks up the office phone and dials. It rings a couple of times then cuts off. Indigo replaces the receiver. As she does, it starts to ring. Indigo answers it. "Hello?"
An annoyed voice comes through the phone. "Indigo, stop investigating me."
"Then come and see me, alone. We can talk."
"No. Wait until Friday."
"Why?"
"I have my reasons."
"Which are?"
"My reasons."
"What happened to you?"
"If you want to know that badly, keep digging and get part of the story. Or meet me like we agreed."
"If I don't stop you won't be there Friday?"
"That's not what I said."
"It kinda was. How about we agree new terms?"
"Why would I do that?"
"Everything so far has been your way. We should compramise."
"I'm listening."
"If I can find you by 6pm Friday, we sit and talk my way. If I don't, we do it your way."
"You personally have to find me. not your assistant."
Yeardleigh walks to the desk and slides Indigo a piece of paper. Indigo reads the paper. "Speaking of my assistant, a friend of hers says hi."
"Who?"
"Moxie."
"Moxie. Nice girl. Straight, but nice. Asked me to help her friend get over her boss. Yeardleigh I believe she said. I said no."
"Why?"
"That is not my place. I've gotta go but you have a deal. You find me by 6 Friday or I find you, like I said."
"Yes. Want to come in and sign something to that effect?"
There is a laugh from the phone. "Good try, Indi. See you Friday."
The phone goes dead. Indigo replaces the receiver. Yeardleigh says "Is it the same person?"
Indigo says "Yeah. They said she asked for a favour and they turned her down."
"So why is this guy after you?"
"It's not a guy."
"You sure?"
"That name I gave you, it's her."
"But, Moxie's..."
"She said. Did your friend tell you what the favour she asked for was?"
"No."
"It was to help you get over your boss."
"It was what?"
"Anything I should know?"
"If I kill Moxie, would you defend me?"
"Come on. You can tell me."
"She asked about you, I told her and she assumed I've got a thing for you."
"Why would she assume that?"
"Because we're both gay and she's an idiot."
"It's not true?"
"You're my boss and I like my job."
"That's not an answer."
"I'd better get back to work. I've got four days to track this Summer down."
"Thank you."
"No problem. The bonus you're going to give me will be fine."
Yeardleigh leaves the office. "I wonder what she thinks her bonus will be?"
