Chapter 2

Chapter 2

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo and Iona stood at a table inside Aprodites underneath a "Congratulations" banner. Iona says "You ok?"

            Indigo says "Yeah. Why?"

            "You don't look happy."

"It's nothing. I'll shake it off."

"I told them you wouldn't want a fuss making but you know Reuben and Priscilla."

"Any excuse for a party. It was a nice idea. I'm not really in that kind of mood."

Priscilla says "Get in that mood. Here." Priscilla passes Indigo and Iona drinks. "Drink that."

"I think I should go home before I put a downer on everyone."

"No, you should stay. Drink this and plenty more. Loosen up. Have fun."

"You thinking about her?" Iona asks.

            "Little bit." Indigo replies.

"I said not to talk about her."

            Priscilla says "Who?"

            "Summer."

"Think of it this way, her loss is someone's gain. Now drink."

Priscilla, Iona and Indigo start drinking. As Indigo puts her glass down, she looks behind her. "What are you looking for?" Iona asks.

            "Someone just pinched my butt."

Priscilla says "Did you see who?"

            "No."

            "Did you notice which cheek?"

            "No."

"You're not very helpful. I could have found them for you."

            "I didn't say I wanted them finding."

"You didn't but you didn't have to. I will find someone for you tonight."

            "Cilla. Stop." Iona says.

"You really think you could find them?" Indigo asks.

"Priscilla shrugs.”Maybe. You want me to?"

            "Yeah. They took my phone."

            "You sure?" Iona asks.

            "Yeah."

"I'll try and ring it. You keep a look out for anyone answering."

"I'll go speak to the bar staff. You may have dropped it and it's been handed in." Priscilla offers.

            "Seems unlikely." Indigo says.

"I'll get us another drink while I'm there."

Priscilla walks towards the bar. Iona puts her phone to her ear. "It's ringing." Indigo starts to look around. "It hung up."

            "Try again." Indigo says.

Iona put the phone back to her ear for a few seconds. "Same again."

            "Damn it."

            "It’s just a phone."

"No it's not. It's got all my information on it. I haven't had chance to sync it with my computer. I only got it yesterday."

Iona's phone lights up. "You've sent me a text."

            "What did I say?"

"It says only indigo would try ringing a lost phone in a nightclub. Shall I reply?"

"Yes. Who are they and how do they know me?"

Iona types the message as Priscilla returns with drinks. "Sorry, no luck at the bar. Well, not with your phone." Priscilla smirks.

            Iona says "You're terrible."

"That guy didn't think so. Who are you texting?"

            "Me." Indigo answers.

"Drink. We're not drunk enough for this."

Priscilla passes the drinks out. "Got a response yet?" Indigo asks Iona. Iona nods. "Well?" Iona hands Indigo the phone. "What the hell?"

            "What does it say?"

"Find me in f5 minutes or the phone finds you." Iona replied.

            "Well that's not creepy."

"How can I find one person in here in five minutes?"

Iona takes her phone back and says "I'll ask for a clue."

            "I'll get Reuben." Priscilla says.

            Indigo looks confused. "Why?"

            "He has a creep magnet."

"Three circles, two rings. Try that and see what it brings." Iona reads the text. "What does that mean?"

Indigo says "I know that saying. Is there anything else?"

            "Four minutes."

Priscilla says "Three circles two rings? That makes no sense. Circles, rings, what's the difference?"

Isn't it five of either?" Iona agrees.

Indigo shakes her head. "It's not shapes. Is there a wedding party in here?"

Priscilla says "I don't know. But Reuben will. Hang on."

Priscilla rushes off. Iona says "Why a wedding party?"

"I'm not sure," Indigo answers. "I know it's something like that." Iona phone lights up. "What's it say?"

"Your friends won't know who to look for. Look yourself."

"How can I find someone when I don't know who I'm looking for?"

Reuben and Priscilla return to the table. "There's a hen party in that corner and a stag party in the lounge." Reuben says.

Iona says "Lounge is out. It's a closed area."

Indigo says "hen party it is then. Come on."

Indigo, Iona, Priscilla and Reuben head towards the hen party. Reuben grabs Priscilla's arm. "Who are we looking for?" he asks.

"The person with Indigo's phone." Priscilla replies.

            "Male? Female?"

            "Don't know."

            "So anyone with a phone?"

            "Looks like."

"They know Indigo and they think she knows them." Iona adds.

            "Recognize anyone?" Reuben asks Indigo.

            Indigo says "No."

Iona checks her phone. "They can see you. Nice top but the bottom's better."

"Please let this be a guy." Priscilla says.

            "Why?" Indigo asks.

"So I can take him off you."

Reuben shakes his head. "You're such a sucker for cheap pick-up lines."

            "Two minutes." Iona says.

Indigo frowns. "I'd never go for a line like that. Sounds too much like my brother."

            "They know."

Iona passes Indigo the phone. Indigo reads the message aloud. "Sorry. Borrowed that from Gaz. You're getting close."

Indigo sends a text back. "What you put back?" Iona asks.

Indigo gives Iona the phone back. "Tell me what the reply is."

Indigo starts to walk away. "Where are you going?" Reuben calls after her.

"I've got a minute to find this person."

Indigo wonders through the crowd. "What happens after a minute?"

"The phone finds her. " Iona tells him.

"Then why didn't we wait until the phone returned with the taker?"

Priscilla laughs. "Have you met Indigo? She's doesn't let anything go."

            "Here she comes."

Indigo rejoins them. "Anything?" Priscilla asks.

Indigo shakes her head. "Ask for more time."

Iona looks at her phone. "They just text. Time's up."

            "Ask for more time."

Iona sends the text. Indigo pulls her phone from her back pocket. "Whoever this person is, they're smooth." Reuben says, sounding impressed.

            "They're a pickpocket."

"They gave you your phone back."

"Did they do anything to it?" Iona asks.

"I'm checking," Indigo says. As Indigo is looking through her phone, a reminder alert goes off. "Looks like I got your interest. Now I have your number and you have mine. If you can find it and use it, I'll meet you here in a week."

"You've got a date," Priscilla says. "It's a creepy blind date, but it's a date."

"She's not going to meet this weirdo." Iona states. She turns to look at Indigo, who is biting her lip. "Are you?"

"She has to find the number first." Reuben reminds them.

"Which she won't. Will you?" Iona almost demands.

Priscilla claps her hands once and says "Well, I think you need to drink it through."

            Indigo nods. "Agreed."

They all head to the bar.

Reviews

It took me a while to review this, but I wanted to consider the prologue and both chapters as a whole. It really works for me. The story is imaginative and I definitely want to know where it's headed. Your dialogue is natural and quite skillful. Hope you add more chapters soon and send me a RR so I don't miss them.
