Night PreferredA Poem by Jessica J
As a child the darkness lure
A many monstrous gaze Worry gripped my joints, be sure And in my heart for days. I walked then ran from beasts Come chasing me for roast. My bones the perfect size in feast, My blood warmed fine for toasts. Despite my fear, my love for night Held steadfast as I grew. Turn to candle for my light, More beauty there I knew. Familiar with the dusk of day I loved the way it fell. Night once again embracing me; lay Without breath to tell. In sleep I rarely found relief, But still that I preferred The only pleasant sweet belief Through darkness I would endure. © 2016 Jessica J |
