Empty Shell

Empty Shell

A Poem by Jessica J

I wait for a phone that does not ring

Warmth that does not shroud

Tears that do not fall

A disappearance that does not employ

Darkness that doesn’t surround.

In my hazy delivery of a page of all thoughts

I have forgotten if you care to hear

If surprised you are at all.

I messed up again, diving headlong into

And when the follow up is not as deep

You turn your face, no longer engaged

It is always this way…I give until empty

And when a shell remains, thus destroyed

The casing is only so FALSE

The decorum is to stay and proclaim

But we all know the game, I’ve seen the slip

I’ll work to reignite a flame…I’ll stay as I do

Until shells take on fashion and are filled up

I act out for pleasure or act out for show

We’re right where I always am…

Each day is the same.
