Rain cometh upon Our Journey

Rain cometh upon Our Journey

A Poem by Josie E. Cook M. A.

Rain cometh upon Our Journey

Raining in the night,

Leaves on the ground,

Flashes of light,

Winter somewhere,

Wrens to the South,

Maybe, the Gulf of Mexico,

Not Bangor,

Rain still falling,

Covering a valley in mists of it,

Fog filling in among the weaving

Trees,

The river filling,

Weight of raindrops pulling,

Autumn leaves losing color,

Large puddles forming

In wet fields of mud and swampy debris,

Pathways are murky and slick,

Still, the water comes down

As yellow headlights swallow up

The countryside,

With faith in the plan,

We continue this journey

Faith in the course of it,

Swimming on among the sea

Of raindrops,

Cascades of water cover the

Dirt roads and the saturated lands

Are minutes from flooding

The valley ahead,

But, we go on,

It's too dark to

Turn back,

We need to be HOME. "J. E. Cook ©2018

This description of a rainy wet journey is done with much imagination & imagery. Your poem starts out feeling like a statement about this particular journey, which could be a singular trip someone is taking, or it could be the journey of one life. But then your imagery seems to grow into possibly being a journey of many lives. Your message is inspiring to those who face challenges becuz of the way you wrap it up with hopefulness & inevitability – all the mixed reasons we continue on in life (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

The rainswept scenery is such a delight; I have always had a soft spot for those days in Autumn when the soft kiss of rain comes in just the right volume, enough to coat the ground lightly and bring with it a slight chill and mist. It always reminds me of scenery in the old black and white movies that i grew up watching.

At such times, to undertake a journey, even a long one, is very much a pleasurable pursuit with the promise of light and warmth waiting at journey's end. The icing on the cake for mine.

Another excellent piece. Wonderful description as always.

Thank you for the review!
Yes, the ending is key here to this one.
You gave life to the photo. The feeling of the hard rain and struggle to reach the destination I could understand. I liked the honest tone in the words. Thank you Josie for sharing the amazing poetry.
