The PainterA Poem by Josie E. Cook M. A.Creating an image on canvas and feeling passion. The Painter
From his wood box, He takes out his collection of paints As his blind model waits, Her body naked and free, In the natural light, The artist arranges his palette With yellow ochre, mars black, and Many other varying shades to create A precise image on his canvas, Her paleness is glowing against the Black velvet background, Her back to him, Dark hair tumbling down over her narrow Shoulders, He dips his brush into the smooth paint And he floats it across his stretched canvas, Infusing it with her life, Releasing his creativity with swirling strokes And adding a little water as he continues, Lavender flowers decorating the satin cream sheets where she awaits, A river bank apparent in the distance through An open window where the sheer curtains float in the Breeze away from the heavy velvet drapes, Her empty fine china teacup rests on the end table Gold trim along the rim, Her skin is awash in the beauty of the afternoon light As he continues to paint her, This woman's mortal loveliness is bringing him Joy with controlled care, A drop of water added to the delightful mix, Her posture stays in place, A reclining form on a bed waiting For her lover to join her And take her in his strong arms, This mirage is shimmering on his wet canvas, He uses discretion as he addresses her While he works on the final touches As their session will end. --J.
