Ole Movie TheatreA Poem by Josie E. Cook M. A.Those nights when we grew up...Ole Movie Theatre
We round the corner, To find the empty building, once it was our favorite Friday Night place, The marquee is blank now, A broken exit sign swings sideways In the wind, The brick has faded from red to light Pinks, The doors remain locked And the front windows are grimy Facing Main Street. The plaster ceiling crumbling inside the vacant lobby, walking home, We talk about enjoying the smell of popcorn And tasting the theater candy melt in our mouths As our feet stick to floor and our eyes are fastened to the big screen with our hands linked often Between mouthfuls of buttery kernels, We relive that youthful feeling inside those dark walls, Knowing we didn't mind the wait in line or the uncomfortable Chairs now empty forever.
