Chapter 5. Remembrance

Chapter 5. Remembrance

A Chapter by Joshua David Vrana

Jaso walked into his room and shut the door behind him, thinking to himself, how am I going to do this? he sat down on his bed "dad, I need your guidance" Jaso pleaded looking to the heavens, the stars shone bright tonight, "I'll just have to think of something" Jaso said while using his elemental control to create a ball of fire in his right hand "I need to master my powers before I can face Maliron" thinking of the man that had killed his family and his way of life, "I will kill him for what he has done" the fire changed to water as he willed it to become a crystal, but only half of it crystalized, the rest fell to the floor leaving a wet spot, Jaso reached out with his senses to feel if May had gone to bed, he felt that she was at peace "....." Jaso opened the window looking at the street below and jumped down to it, landing on his feet he took off running down the road, ran halfway up the side of a building and stayed there, listening to the city below, it started to rain "....." Jaso looked to the sky as he climbed to the top of the building, once there he tried to use his elemental power over water to stay dry, it worked for a little bit until he ran out of energy to do so, lightning streaked across the sky, Jaso remembered how his father tried to teach him some of the powers Jaso could use, he remembered the lightning palm, "son this is a power that only kings and queens can use" he turned to face a stone pillar, his right hand shone with light, upon touching his hand to the pillar it flashed with blue light followed by the crash of thunder and the pillar had been blown into peices, "now you give it a try son" Jaso got as far as making a spark before it blew up in his face, Jaso's memory ended when a clash of thunder happened close to him "how can I compare with you father?" he screamed at the sky hoping for an answer, but none came. Somebody must have heard Jaso yelling and they came up to check it out “what are you doing up here?” the person asked, Jaso didn’t answer but ran to the edge of the building “don’t jump kid, it’s not worth it!” the man yelled at him, Jaso jumped off and saw the man run to the edge to watch and yell for help, he hit the ground hard leaving a pot hole as big as himself, he got up and ran as fast as he could then warped to his room. Jaso woke up the next morning, his clothes were torn from when he hit the ground, he quickly changed to the new clothes May had got him, ate breakfast then hurried off to school, it was still raining when he got there, Jaso was always the first one there he had made it a point to do so. Jaso walked to his first class, outside the door he heard what sounded like a girl crying. Jaso reached out to open the door but found it was locked, using he powers to push the pins in the lock to open the door. It was dark in the room; to anyone else they would not be able to see well in the darkened room "who's there?" said a female voice. Jaso looked toward where the voice came, "a friend" Jaso replied, "you can turn on the lights if you want" said the female voice Jaso flipped the light switch, and the lights flickered on, sitting on the floor crying was Sara "oh! it's you" Sara sounded surprised "yeah, what are you doing here so early" Jaso asked, Sara wiped the tears from her beautiful face ".....I needed to get away" Sara replied, her eyes tiered up while she said it "my dad......" Sara started to cry again, "do you want me to leave?" Jaso asked “ if you want to be alone?" Sara looked up at Jaso and shook her head no, "ok" Jaso said, the first bell rang for class as Jaso helped Sara to her feet, he noticed that her leg was bruised he wanted to ask but stayed silent at lunch Jaso sat by himself again, watching the other students talking to each other, he noticed Sara as she walked in to the lunch room and got in line, her boyfriend was right behind her, Jaso thought of him as a jock, he made bad friends picked on younger kids and made Sara look unhappy, Sara walked over to Jaso's table and sat down "hi, do you mind if we sit here?" Sara asked motioning to her boyfriend “all the other tables are taken” Jaso looked around "no, go ahead" replied Jaso watched as her boyfriend walked toward them "if he can stand sitting with me" Jaso looked at nick "hey, loser move it" said Nick "and if I don't?" Jaso replied "there are plenty of seats, so you don't have to sit next to me" Jaso said Nick glared at Jaso "whatever loser" Jaso finished his meal and said goodbye to Sara then left for his next class
