if you were to look long enough into my eyes
you could probably see frayed images of her
                                              burnt deeply into my retina's

ages were spent looking at her purest form
sleeping softly within my tender gaze

                                             years have past, many years

and still I wake up reaching for her
the memories nor the hope will
                                                            relinquish me

they drag me through the deepest
                                                  and darkest of emotions

my heart still quickens with hers
my mind still picks up on her thoughts

it's true, soul mates are forever
in one way or the other

It's a masterpiece. You brought pain through your words, you really locked a piece of yourself into this! That's what I've always liked about your poetry I think, you don't just make something that sounds nice or has relevance.. you paint your soul out a bit in each little line. It's been a while since I've reviewed anything of yours and I have to say you've developed even further as a writer! I am honestly and sincerely impressed with this piece Joshua, it's going into my favourites.

This is Magnificent...You have captured emotions that are embedded deep inside a broken heart... hauntingly familiar emotions to those who have lost their love and yearn to have their soulmate back.

Your last line is so powerful..and there lies the truth of the love.. in some ways..any ways we are connected with our soul mates for a lifetime..xo

Hauntingly true emotion.. honesty and transparency are vivid as my own memories of my unconditional emotions flood into the moment.

" my heart still quickens with hers
my mind still picks up on her thoughts"

"it's true, soul mates are forever
in one way or the other"

It's that other that this reader struggles with at times...Unrequited emotions sometimes feel like a part of the problem instead of part of the solution...but that's another poem for another time. If love is lost, by natural or unnatural causes? perhaps the only way to heal is to love again...This poem showcases the emotions of a very tender and soulful poet...Hope that wasn't too personal.

This was a cute piece, but still sad nontheless. I can just imagine everything in this piece. If you are talking about who I think you are then it's okay to miss her. I loved the emotion as well. Cute! I loved it. Thanks for sharing.
