the lonely author

i never had any friends
so i started reading books.
after a while all of the stuff i had read started building up.
so i started writing.
i wrote a book.
it sold well.
made the best seller list in the Times.
it was about being lonely.
i went to a lot of functions.
i wore suits, and looked dignified,
or i wore jeans and signed my name over and over for people claiming to be my biggest fan.
before they walked away from me.
i did a cross country book tour-
i was hoping to meet a friend.
i don't know why i thought that i would.
fans are not friends, that's what my publicist says.
she's not a friend either, though she didn't actually say that when she went over the rules.
today i made my first million.
i still have no friends.
