Land and Sea

Land and Sea

A Poem by Joshua J. Lowe
"

Some words I vomited at 1am because I couldn't sleep.

"
A voice like an ocean once said,

"Take care not to break your heart

On the rocks beneath my waves;

windswept seas have no mind

for gentleness."

And I stayed clinging to the only

Thought in my mind that could

Keep me afloat in its waters.

There was a time I thought the

Quiet within myself could calm

The storms within its turbulent

Soul.

But how can a lion

Tame the heart of a star?

In reply I offered my heart

regardless of the cost.

"Move softly through my forests;

Strong roots that crack the earth

can still burn."

It was in that moment I realized,

Land and Sea

Were set apart for a reason.

I was extremely sleep deprived at the time of writing so it may not be perfect. But it came from somewhere in my heart. So treat it nicely, please.

This is fragile, longing, endearing.. softly and beautifully felt.. I love its personification and movement. Beautiful writing!!

"Strong roots that crack the earth can still burn." Powerful mojo, Sir. Nicely done. F**k perfect. Perfection is a tedious concern not worth the ink it's written with.
Cheers.
