If the World Could See Me NowA Poem by Joseph S. Cougar
I think I'll fly away Into another day With the slow and setting sun Behind my back Cause now I've got the time To just make up my mind As I watch my beat-up car Hauled off the track
Well I used to be a man Of many things and many trades A lonely vagabond Just tryin' to make his way
But if the world could see me Would they dare believe me That it's over now, I've found my way I'm coming home Or would the world recede me Leave in disbelieving That a vagabond has lost his way With none to carry one ...If the could see me now
Left home without a trace Driving, place to place With a six-pack and a Suitcase full of dreams No one could hold me down (So I) Packed up and left that town To go searchin' for What life could offer me
Mother wanted me to find A girl to take my seed But the comfort in the bottle Seemed like all I'd ever need
But if the world could see me Would they dare believe me That it's over now, I've found my way I'm coming home Or would the world recede me Leave in disbelieving That a vagabond has lost his way With none to carry on ...If they could see me now
But now it's at an end They check my pulse to pretend Like they really cared If I lived or died Haul my car off the track Just to get the train on back Into the cold and lonely Darkness of the night
Maybe it was the drinks I had Yeah so many come to mind But you know it gets so lonesome On the road here all the time
But if the world could see me Would they dare believe me That it's over now, I've found my way I'm coming home Or would the world recede me Leave in disbelieving That a vagabond has lost his way With none to carry on ...If they could see me now
