Tree Dreams, Deferred

Tree Dreams, Deferred

A Poem by J.R. Ornelas
"

A struggle to hold on to what matters.

"
I don't know what to say,
what to do.

It's hard to be in this decay of dignity,
of sanity
and intuition.

It's kind of like trees.

Showers revitalize their boughs and leaves,
like your ever anticipated but innocent presence does my mind and heart.

It can rot eventually.

I dry and shrivel like a many a dream deferred when you're not happy.

Don't be my dream deferred.

Trees embrace the sky like we should the future.
Let it be our future.

We would share the soil,
the same root system and everything.

When you feel lonely,
I feel lonely, too.

It's' always hard.

We could fix it.
We could fix anything.

All it takes is a tree dream.

I rather like this. I think I caught a reference to Conrad Aiken? It was either him or Keats. "What happens to a dream deferred?" is the line I'm thinking of. Both of those are worthy poets. No doubt.

I like this. Especially the imagery! I love trees, and your descriptions definitely paint images in the reader's mind. The sentiment of the piece is great as well. Well done!

Side note: In your 10th line, I'm not sure if maybe the "a" in front of the word "many" isn't supposed to be there? Disregard this if it is, but I thought I'd point it out just in case; sometimes, no matter how many times I proofread, it takes another set of eyes to spot things like that. ;-)
