Earth

Earth

A Poem by Jordan M. DeSurne

A frayed loop, lying in broken hands -
Cut short, as a life wasted
Fingers dancing along tightly-wound seagrass
In the end, did I make the right choice?

We scurry along, like mindless ants
Victims of conformity and the hivemind
Trunk, metasoma, arms and legs identical
Marching uniform, to what bitter ends?
The mold fakes broken, by the pseudo-unique
An attempt regrettably failed.

Premature thoughts of hope and success,
A sickly fetus, awaiting abortion
Mindless, heartless, unaware of fate
Sleeping quietly, cradled by hands of doom.

I slip away from these throes of perdition
A dove's heavenly feathers, quietly floating away
Falling upwards through the salvation-shaped hole in the sky
Can you save me? No, I will save you.
