Sobek, Anubis, Ma'at

Sobek, Anubis, Ma'at

A Poem by Jordan M. DeSurne

Shining ruby eyes gaze upon the river winding like serpents,
Emerald scales glinting and shining in the midday's hot sun
Slaves labor in desolate fields, masters sing praises to the hissing behemoth
And the sun-disc still glows vibrantly, shining light above his divine uraeus
Sobek-Re,
Sebek,
Sobek-Ra.

Lines of wailing undead,
Pray for approval at the keen hound's nose
Heart weighed like valuables and gold;
Against the black hound's feather
Anubis,
Anbu,
Inpu.

Stars systematically dance and play through the sky tied to the puppeteer's strings,
The universe her endless stage, order and life her audience
Ma'at,
Mayet,
Muh-aht.
