Inside

Inside

A Poem by Jordan M. DeSurne

Fear of what lies waiting;
Outside these four safe walls,
Eyes watching
Eyes judging
Dark undertones of agoraphobia whispering words of comfort
The bright light hurts my sheltered eyes,
And I know the air is dirty
Man's baleful words which will never go unheard,
No, I do not wish them to seek me.

Pale, trembling flesh
Wrapped around nervous, shaking bones
The black fire within my bony housing, breeding paranoia and lies
Disease and pestilence
Ridicule and hate,
It is more than comfortable here,
Inside.
