The Chameleon

The Chameleon

A Poem by jordan2092

Clench you fist until they burst painful and white
Shut your eyes, relinquish sight
Throw yourself blindly into the darkness behind you
Outstretch your arms, pray for a rescue
Let scream turn to whisper, bone turn to ash
Let time stop, let clock gears mash
Let fire turn cold, let light be dark
Let life leave your pale and stark
Let dark tendrils coil around your wrists
Abandoned want in murky mists
Place the blindfold over your eyes and tie it twice
Lay flesh to earth, pay the price
Abstain from life, surrender happiness, sadness, anger and love
Line up for uniformity don’t push, don’t shove
Put on the gray uniform and step into line
Meld into surroundings, be careful not to shine
Let voices speak not above a whisper
Cower before suits ironed ever crisper
Congregate in the shadow of corporate domination
Listen without thinking to the government’s justification
Quell all emotion
Desert any creative notion
Silence the singers and musicians alike
Sharpen the painters brush into the warrior’s pike
Mix his paint to shades of gray
Blot out the writers words erase the day
Break apart the sculptures Pygmalion
Become nothing more than the versatile chameleon
