Always ChangingA Poem by JD SutterA look at seasons and the passage of time.Soaking in the sun’s warm rays, I inhale the scent of fresh-cut grass. Chasing butterflies is how I’ll spend the day Or I may fly a paper plane or ride my bike. Tonight let’s catch some fireflies We’ll put ‘em in a Mason jar while crickets sing. Walking in a chilly breeze, I spy the trees changing their colors. Leaves scurry around my feet And I zip my jacket up a little more. Maybe after I rake the leaves We’ll dive into the heap until it’s dinnertime. Breathing in the freezing air, I smile as I see the blanket of white. The days are much shorter now Let’s go to the sledding hill while it’s still light. Then with our glove-covered hands We’ll break icicles from the eaves as the sun sets. Standing in the cool rainfall, Splashes of green life fill my sight. The trees, the grass, and rhubarb too Did you see? The tulips bloomed yesterday. When the morning showers are done We’ll have a picnic in the park while robins sing. Seasons. Childhood. Neither are forever. © 2019 JD SutterAuthor's Note
