The Pebble Effect

My first 100-word story.

The soft kerplunk of the pebble marring the surface of the pond was satisfying. He stared at the ever-expanding ripples until they were no more, before flicking another stone after its fellow. Again, he relished the sound. It was a tiny thing. But there was a comfort in it. Was it the familiarity? Or the fact that it was something that his own hand had caused? As small and helpless as he felt at most times, here was something that he had made happen. His action had left a mark on the world. Even if only for a fleeting moment.

I can relate, having tossed stones in the same way, then observing the ripples. It's just so mesmerizing, isn't it? All your words are well placed, though I recommend you delete "after it's fellow".

Thanks for the recommendation, however, the point of the exercise was to have an exactly 100-word story so just removing those words wouldn't work. The piece would have to be re-written. I acknowledge that it could be better. And even after I posted it, I saw a couple changes I would have made if I'd taken more time on it. But that's ok; I'll learn from it and hopefully improve with the next one! :)
