Life

A Poem by Jonathan Cadien
"

A sonnet written about my perception of life.

"

Tonight we will cradle the world in our arms.

Beneath the stars and the daunting clouds, we will teach the world about the virtues of love.

Stretched across the desolate prairies, filled with esoteric charm;

And the bustling cities, saturated with skyscrapers penetrating the sky above;

Here lies the sum of our achievement; the sum of our limitless potential.

Chaotic and godless, can we persevere through the cold dark night of progress?

Brother, why must you carry onward towards the dawn lacking the essentials?

The world continues to spin onward towards oblivion, not a word to profess.

Come, bear witness to the death and resurrection of the prodigal son.

For his blood runs through my own veins, bringing with it a lust for the unknown.

The past, scrawled on a bloody battlefield, shows us what must be done.

We will walk in the shoes of condemned, screaming for forgiveness through a statue carved in weathered stone.

Looking up towards the ageless sky, our fate appears harmless and distant.

A mere child’s laugh gives a meaning to our existence.

"Here lies the sum of our achievement; the sum of our limitless potential."

This line is like the focal point.
