OPIUM

OPIUM

A Poem by Jolomir
"

A critical look at religion instead of a true worship

"

I walk down the streets of Lagos and see people devout to God, in prayer, in worship, and service but to what purpose? Churches preach from horn speakers hung outside the church that the word may be heard... faithfuls troop in and out of churches never fill of what it is they seek. They spend time on their knees, fasting, longing and wanting evermore but all I saw was....

Festered faith fastened firm

With cold chains cruelly clad,

Soul and spirit sullen sore

As peppered pasts painfully pry,

Preachers preaching, piously praying,

Daily devotions dutifully done

With hapless hearts heavily harnessed

On cravings crested upon conceived crucibles,

Wailing worshipers worn weary

Looking lorn with lustful longing,

For God's grace gloriously given

Upon man's mindfully mangled minds.
