In Rainer I Trust

In Rainer I Trust

A Poem by ILuvRilke

“I touched her perfect body with my mind”

And recognized beauty, unafraid and accepting

Realizing unanswered prayers are not secrets

They are hidden in our imagination

Not unlike a bird on a wire

If you would rest your grief upon me

I will swallow your darkness

This is the cross I must bear

By all that I have done wrong

I have come to understand blessings,

And like a knight seeking redemption

I have saved all these gifts for you

I need to be heroic, like the teacher Rilke

Improbable, noble, and fearless

Whisper to me your despair

And I will surrender to you that privilege

Once done, we will build a castle on a cloudless slope

In which being together is our only wish

Slip off your night-dress, Dream

I won’t let you go so soon, so embarrassingly full
