Never and AlwaysA Poem by johntheghostGoodnight and goodbye“I never trusted love,” You scream “Your eyes are filled with lies It seems” And never and always are never extremes “I never trusted love Never trusted you either.” The sunset drags our romance into the ocean I notice your barstool is empty today Tourists are dying to pretend to belong here But no one notices On caravans of old folks alone in the darkness The driver is cursing the red lights and traffic A passenger is crying I hold your hand in an antiseptic nightmare You stare at me without knowing my name Fifty years disappears like morning fog in the sunshine I’m sorry I love you Goodnight and goodbye Waves rush ashore an endless parade of indifference While soft words try to soothe the damage of devotion There is no excusing blatant trials or dull errors Yield or suffer “I always trusted love,” I scream “Your love is plenty more than enough It seems” And never and always are always extremes “I always trusted love Always trusted you too.” © 2011 johntheghostAuthor's Note
