Another Chance

Another Chance

A Poem by johntheghost
"

A hopeful cynic writes a poem.

"

Another Chance

The sign in front of me says stop

Too drunk to read

I trust no one when I’m afraid

Least of all myself

Another storm

Another chance

To change my thinking

Stop my drinking

Start all over

Another change

To change

Rain will fall like tears from heaven

Yet I stay dry

You can be my storm surge levy

Simply if you stay

Thunder pounds

Coming down

To face myself again

Heal this liver

Start all over

Another chance

To change

            Liars lie

            That’s what we do

I always meant to tell you the truth

The road I’m on is empty now

Still I hear your voice

The echoes of a dream we shared

Another day

Another dawn

Light my darkness

Steal my sorrow

Start all over

Another chance

To change

            Junkies die

            That’s what junkies do

I always meant to tell you the truth

The sign in front of me says stop

I’m too drunk to read

I trust no one when I’m afraid

Least of all myself

Another storm

Another chance

To change my thinking

Stop this drinking

Start all over

Another chance

To change
