Landscaping requires a lot of planning which usually starts with plants. But landscaping stones play a crucial role. They highlight the space and add extra features to the entire space.

Not only for decoration, stones for landscaping also act as barriers and other purposes as well. There are various kinds of stones available in the market that can be used for decorating and creating various designs for landscaping.


Gravel: is also referred as pea gravel or crushed gravel. These stones usually have rough edges; therefore gravels should not be used in those places which are meant to walk barefoot. They are best to be used for unpaved driveways as its top layer or used in a French drain as under layer. Pea gravel is visually appealing landscaping stones. These gravels are and are smooth and tiny in size and is commonly used around large stones while making a pond. Pea gravel also looks very attractive in plant containers as covering materials.


River Rocks: are available in varied ranges starting from small to large ones. As a result of their different sizes, river rocks can be used to decorate different spaces. Such as small to medium sized river rocks have a round shape and can be to cover French drains or a covering material for plants which needs heat or plants in shades. Whereas medium to large sized river rocks can be used to decorate gardens.


Large Stones: can be used for multi-purpose. Whether they are as huge as cars to as small as a football, large landscaping stones have both decorative and functional usage. Large stone serves as a barrier to stop cars driving into the garden area. Additionally, if they place with plants alone or with other landscaping stones looks very attractive. Large stones look beautiful and create natural look when places near ponds and waterfalls.


Flagstones: are flat and wide stones which are ideal if used as stepping stones. These landscaping stones can be used to build patio or pathways. Flagstone should be laid over the sand while making pathways to provide a stable surface along with good drainage. The low-growing plant gives a natural look if placed between the stone and compliment the entire landscaped area.


Lava Rock: comes in bright red color. These stones are commonly used to fill the easements and driveways. Like gravels, lava rocks should also not be used in those places where people walk barefoot as, these landscaping stones have a coarse texture. This form of stone for landscaping looks beautiful in gardens while complimenting certain plants like cactus or yucca.
