One-Eyed Teddy bear

One-Eyed Teddy bear

A Poem by Johee Poetry

Walking through a closed tunnel

Reflections of car lights flick as I pass the gray wall

Long lines of cars stuck in traffic

As I walk towards the end of the tunnel I hear the loudest noise

Two cars are struck from behind

I'm shocked by the destruction

Smoke in the air

As I approach the cars I see something in the ground

A one-eyed teddy bear

A memory for a child

A lost friend to someone

Thoughts of whose toy it may be

I can't believe this was meant to be

One-eyed teddy bear

Its not the same happy stare

Dust rising from the ground

All of a sudden I hear no sound

Everything is in slow motion

People start getting out of their own cars

I can now listen the sirens from far

Speechless to what just happened , I stand away

This is just another day

I start seeing blurry as smoke get into my eyes

Then I see someone standing by the wrecked car

I try to clear my eyes and I can't believe what I saw

A little boy against the wall staring down

My heart starts pounding as he looks at me

I think I'm holding his one-eyed teddy

I gave it a kiss on the nose and put it back on the ground

Let's just leave it to fate

And hope these souls fly off their way

This is just another day
