A StepA Poem by Joan Spahr, Soul Poetrypath of healing
A Step
I got up and took a step today, I think a thousand miles wide. I nearly fell, but caught myself. I laughed and then I cried. I'm focused on the path ahead, I'm standing on the wire. My eyes are fixed on a distant plane As I dance across the fire. I won't look down, won't turn around, I'm balance and ballet. Fear tugs at my sleeves and wobbles my knees. Be Still! I'm on my way. The distant plane no longer in view, My vision blurred by fright. But I am Force and Strength and Love, A thousand miles wide? I bounce into the magical night. J.
