Synthetic Bliss

Synthetic Bliss

A Poem by Jo

Synthetic bliss courses through the vein

Devours anxiety and numbs aching pain

Waves of serenity roll through the soul

Breathe in natural ebb and flow

Is this how others feel?

Tingling feeling starts in the toes

Transverses scarred arms

And before it's known

The mind dissociates

The consciousness flows

Breathing slows and drifts away

Awake and thirsty.

Memories of euphoria replaced with abraised flesh

Body heavy, mind foggy, reach for the phone and reconnect

Reconnect with the world and life, the anxiety and obligations

Alarm beeps an incessant tune

I sit and wonder

If the covers will always fall so heavy across my body

It aches

The head is heavy, but this time it’s full

No, I’m fine, I can find this on my own

My cog joins the others as the gears start turning

Keeps the system running

Churning out results

But the teeth shouldn’t grind like that

Making that terrible screech

But what if my only bliss is synthetically composed?
