The Song of the BirdA Poem by Drifter
I stare from a distance,
at two birds as they sing, a song recognized, from a familiar scene. ‘Twas back in the days, when the bird, it was me, now wallowing in pity, as the broken soul bleeds. I sheltered the flame, Until it grew dim, Then shed the first tear, I now view a sin. All emotion was gone, From where it had been, Those who are always right, Never can win. If all men see, With comparing eyes, Then I’ve slipped off your radar, And cut off all ties. But you still lie, In the center of mine, While I wander about, As if I were fine. As I watch from afar, The worst part of all, While lifted up high, At the same time you fall. In desperation to help, Through sobs, hear my call, Never to be noticed, For pride, it stands tall. I ponder in despair, Standing over your grave, How could someone so perfect, So suddenly change? With so much potential, A heart now thrown away. And for what? It’s pathetic. You won’t even be saved. So forget everything, that you had seen in me, Forget everything, That you thought we could be. Now remember my heart, Will never be free, It’s not like it matters, Because you’ll never see. Continue to be blind, By the birds precious song, I watch you warn yourself, But for now, sing along. For the loss of a love, Is worth dying alone, Because you’re still in my reach, But much too far gone. © 2012 DrifterReviews
