III. The StationA Chapter by Christina JonesWhen Dixon and I split, I found a nice secluded house in the woods. It is just right out of town and is very peaceful and quiet. I wanted this because I didn’t want him finding us. I don’t understand how he could have found us I have changed our names and moved all the way across the country. This baffled me because I know Dixon. He is an a*****e, but he doesn’t have the type of contacts you need to find me. Not like I do. I pulled into the station and got Annabelle out of the car. It was like Ted was waiting for us to arrive every second since he left my house earlier. He was literally against a desk looking at the door when we walked in. He had this worry some look on his face. He grabbed Annabelle, who was still in her car seat, and set her on his desk. He shut the door behind me and asked me to take a seat. I took off my coat and sat in a seat in front of his desk. He sat down behind his desk and let out a deep long sigh. “Okay. So can you go over what exactly happened this morning?” He asked me. “ I told you what happened Ted. I heard them break in my kitchen window so I grabbed my gun and fired when they came too close to me and my child. I tied them up so that they couldn’t try to get away and then I called you.” I said still a little confused as to why Ted was acting so strange. He shuffled through some papers on his desk and pulled two to the surface and faced them towards me. “These are the men that broke into your house. The first one is Charles Hanken. He is a chef at our local restaurant and this? This is Red. He is a farmer about 3 miles out of town. I have known both of these men my whole life Eden, and I can’t say I would ever see them doing this on their own.” He told me. “So what exactly are you saying Ted?” I asked him a little more anxious to know what he knows. “They say that some guy asked them to break in to your house and grab you and Annabelle and to take them to Red’s farm. The man was supposed to pick you two up and pay them for their services. Do you think that this man could be Dixon? All of my sources say that he seems to act like he doesn’t know where you two are, but who else could this be? Do you know anyone else who would want to kid knap you and Annabelle?” He seemed truly scared for us at this point. “No I don’t know anyone else who would want to bother us. The first thing I thought of was Dixon. The fact that he could have found us freaks me out. I took every precaution to make sure he can’t find us and yet look at what I am dealing with now. His coke addiction and his abusive actions are why I left Ted and you know that, but I don’t see him trying to kid knap us. I don’t know, something is very fishy about this and I don’t like it. We need to figure out if he really knows where we are. Your sources, can they do some sort of shake down or interrogation to make him talk? Ask him if he has seen us or knows where we could possibly be. Just act like you guys are looking for us and you don’t really need him you know. If he truly doesn’t know where we are he will just cry and beg for his life, I know him he is a cry baby. If he has suddenly gotten the balls to look for us then he will act a little more brave and will not want to give up any information.” He looked at me and smiled. “ I think that is a great idea.” “Okay well you look into getting that done and let me know what happens. I have to go see Nikai.” I said to him as I put my coat on and grabbed Annabelle. “No Eden, that should be all for now. I will be in touch.” He said as opened his office door for me and walked me out. Mintsy was sitting at her desk doing paper work. Or so I thought. The whole walk to the front door she just glared at me with the same hateful gaze I got from the guy in my house. I have never seen these people before this incident, yet they both seem to hate me so much. I thanked Ted again and walked out to my car. I strapped in Annabelle’s car seat and dialed Nikai’s number as I strapped my own seat belt. “Hi you reached Nikai, sorry I can’t get to the phone right now, but leave your name and number and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you!” She never answers her damn phone, why even have one. I started the car and pulled out and went towards Nikai’s house. She moved to the city right next to this little town. It is about an hour drive from here. I should stop by the house and grab a few things, we will probably stay out there tonight. I made the turn and went towards the house. We were coming up the driveway, which is pretty long, and as I got about 30 feet from the garage I seen a man standing in the woods.
He was looking right at me. He had to be about 100 yards away. He was wearing all black and a black stocking hat. I was so busy looking at this strange man that I didn’t notice James was parked in front of the garage. I smacked right into him. I slammed on the breaks and flung it in to reverse. I backed up about 5 feet and looked back at Annabelle. She was still sleeping, man this kid sleeps like a rock. I felt so stupid, good thing I wasn’t going very fast at all. I got out of my car and instantly started apologizing to James. He kind of chuckled and said, “You just are having quite a morning aren’t you.” “I really am sorry James I honestly wasn’t paying attention. I saw this man out there in the woods. I was so distracted I didn’t even think to look and see if someone was here. I am so sorry.” He just looked at me a little confused and somewhat concerned. “What do you mean a man in the woods? Where?” © 2013 Christina Jones |
