There Once Was a Star

There Once Was a Star

A Poem by Capricious Clouds
"

Inspired by Nietzche's "On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense"

"
The thing in itself
incomprehensible chasm
first metaphor then meaning
the great X in the sky
and the nerves that feign feeling
pain, sorrow, and stimuli
then as an image
iconic and reified
and last as a great mouth
of breath and a sound
of which all is lost
to the fables
the myths
the portraits of presidents
the rings and the promises
transparent, aesthetic
and ultimately nullified
to dreams and believing
without even seeing
the thing in itself
beyond all our reasoning.

Thanks for the warm reviews, Coyote and Jerusalem Cricket. I'm relocating from another poetry board I've been on since 2006. I look forward to reading and sharing and constructively supporting my fellow writers!

Logic and reason in poetry. I liked the poem. You left me with thoughts and things to ponder. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
