Sunrise (a poem)A Poem by Joshua Donahuea poem about the sense of forever as a couple steps into the next chapter of their lives.Sunrise (a poem)
We lay there, draped in one another’s arms Feeling the smooth, comfortable sand beneath our bodies It was still cool out, with little light to be seen Yet, we remained still As we heard the tides of the sea roll in and out of the shore The seagulls taking flight, ready for the early day’s travel And the wind, being the strings that controlled the motions of everything around us We weren’t looking at each other -- We didn’t need to We stared out across the sea of liquid as it rippled, knowing something was arising on the far side So we waited You squeezed my hand a little from impatience We had longed to see this It was something we needed so we could make a fresh start It was the symbol for it It was our green light to know we could move forward with our lives, even though I was departing the same day It would most likely be our final moment we shared Then, there it was Rays of light began breaching the captivity of the ocean’s surface It broke free, shining its glory everywhere and basking everything in pure richness It gave the world a whole new perspective This was our moment and our moment alone It was our sunrise © 2012 Joshua DonahueAuthor's Note
