Sixteen

Sixteen

A Poem by Jessie Knight
"

Wandering thoughts of a scattered young mind....

"
Sometimes feelings become far too real
Emotions begin to consume your world.

Eventually sleep is the only escape
Even a razor hardly dulls the pain.

The Earth won't stop spinning
And time seems to whirl by too quickly.

People come into your life
Then disappear with a piece of your heart.

Society threatens and sneers
Judging everything you hold dear.

We're only human
I'm only a girl.

My mind is full of fragile thoughts
Strongly guarded by impenetrable walls of steel.

Youth are corrupted, overshadowed, scared
I'm only sixteen...

And life is already a burden.

Take a step back and take it at your own pace. Think, when people had nothing theysurvived and enjoyed. They could.... their priorities were different than us today.

Then you can cut it at life, and cut out the razor blades. They are only for shaving, OK?

It's been a little while since I was sixteen, but the memories linger on. It's a difficult time,so many conflicting emotions and no-one seems to understand, you don't really understand yourself. Gradually though, and mostly, life becomes less burdensome.

This is an insightful write that so many can relate to.

Beccy.

My God this has to be up on a pedestal! Describing the exact emotions of when I was sixteen! Amazing work

This was a hard piece to read as I felt the very same at sixteen. It gets better once you truly step away from the choas and pain. Such a tragic piece but it was very well written. Great job!

So very sad I say yet so very true
and may i add Human.
To show the core of our being with someone else that is the
real power we have to show what it feels like
to be vulnerable inside nothing to hide
So many of us have been down that path and have may
not looked back yet i say have no trepidation
young one
you have a friend till the end.

I am 15 (almost 16) and I suffer with self harm and I found this extremely relatable. I've never personally been able to write down how I felt about the matter by myself because I always felt like I was undermining what was actually happening, but oh dear you've outdone yourself (人´∀`).☆.。.:*・

I have a daughter, and this makes perfect sense. It was emotional. Well done!
