The Pain of PerfectionA Poem by J. K. HannahI came across this poem about perfectionism I wrote during a rough time. Even though I'm moving beyond these habits, it still resonates.
Never good enough
Never strong enough Never organized enough Never wealthy enough Never relaxed kind good Never satisfied Never done proved approving Always demanding Always expecting- more Always on Always thinking Always critical Mistakes have no excuses Imperfections have no place You must strive You must achieve No space for weakness No space for pain - - - - - - Anger. Unforgiving. Guilt. Anger. Pain. Unforgiving. - - - - - - Shame is your second name Hide your flaws. Be perfect. Afraid of your feelings You control - always You are not free You are not human © 2017 J. K. Hannah |
