A Rainy Day

A Rainy Day

A Poem by Audrey Bruckner

I wake by your touch

a single finger tracing lines down my arms

stopping at each mole like landmarks

frenzied kisses bring delight

finding my weaknesses and replacing them

with sacrificed strength

rain spiraling, crashing loudly

on the windowsill

creating a beat not to be ignored

shimmering ready to reflect

our hearts beating entwined

silent, cheek to cheek,

all the world asleep

gripping tightly to fingers

and souls

our gaze unbroken

not wanting to miss a moment

chins tilted, smiles wide

we alone finally saved

from love lorn existence

never again to return
