The Elephant

The Elephant

A Poem by Tara Ghorm

The elephant
She is born
She is happy
She is free

The elephant
She is loved
She is adored
She is oblivious

The elephant
She is shackled
She is detained
She is held back

The elephant
She is not strong enough
She is not wise enough
She is not old enough

The elephant
She is hated
She is beaten
She is unloved

The elephant
She is stronger
She is wiser
She is older

The elephant
She does not believe
She does not try
She does not even attempt

The elephant
She is shackled
She is detained
She is strong enough

But she just doesn’t believe

I loved this piece, there was so much emotion that I could feel - although I did feel like I was on the outside of the scene, just watching - I also loved the way you wrote this. It was unique. Your repetition of the words and phrases added alot of emphasis and partially drew me in, but the whole topic is what did it for me. Great piece :)
