I stand--
I stand upon my hill, my kingdom
This mound of glory holds my high
Next to the lowlands, cement clad factory
And watch the fireworks’ smoke go by.
The adventure in this town, the people that I meet!
It is a jungle,it’s a woods, a shining sea.
I harvest affection from stray grey cats,
They gather food from me.
I run--
I run through fields and crowds of flesh
Rainbow skin tones in my eyes
We are a people, and not the same
In my hometown, under our valley sky
Ruler am I of my backyard kingdom.
This man-made mountain, high
Left behind by the workers of that factory
Cement dust flutters by
As I stretch my arms, heaven to meet.
The sky sparkles like the sea.
In my home waiting are my tom-cats
Yielding their harvests-mice for me.
And my lover grins, a smile of another flesh
And then he turns and looks me in the eyes.
And now we know we wouldn’t be the same
In another town, another sky.
