The song of the winds

The song of the winds

A Poem by jjomeiza
"

In a violent prone country like you can't help but remember what it feels like to have peace

"
A song swims to my ears
Across the valleys and over the seas
Carried by the voice of the winds

It sings of the wide wide valleys
Reaching afar like the fields of the sky
Adorned like a woman in her 'aseobi'

It sings about the rolling hills
With peaks carved in Ivory
Shining like the eye of the sun

It sings of the wildflowers
Dotting the landscape like rain showers
Filling the air with the lavender of freedom

It sings of the crystal rivers
Of the great waters of the niger
It sings of the lakes and the fishes within
Dancing to the rythmn of joyful habitation

But then the song takes a harsher tone
Screaming and screaming of the darker Valleys
Gorged with the blood of our fathers
Our bones rest in violent slumber on the floors of the once beautiful fields

The hills are painted in agony
And the crystal waters a scarlet thread in the embroidery of time

PS-aseobi as used in the poem is a very expensive clothing worn by the yoruba women of Western Nigeria on special occasions
