the prodigal brother

the prodigal brother

A Poem by jjomeiza
"

an adaptation of the biblical story of the prodigal son from his brother's point of view

"
i stood ashore staring at the calm gentle sea
it seems to go on forever
flying in mighty waves of blue
but i know it has a shallow end
bordered by a land of worthless sands

my brother traveled afar off
swept away by the waves and tides of foolishness
he took with him the spoils of his inheritance
and bartered his birthright for meager delight

long gone has he been
but as the clock strikes again
i know he will drift back home
from the terrible realities of the other side
riding on the horse of the western winds
until his broken sail comes to rest at my feet

oh! my brother saw the end of the ocean
and like a madman filled
his sacks with the goodies of the land
then home he remembered
and swam back with the loots of his striving
but alas they were only sands
worthless like my brother's pilgrimage had been
