The Face MaskA Poem by JJ HartlyDrama MasksThere is a face of confusion, behind a mask of delight; one is dark ... one is light, can you see through the illusion? A tear rolls down the face; it tells a story of utter fear, of doom which inches near ... in this dark and dreary place. A tear rolls down the mask; it tells a story of innate charm, hiding the face from any harm ... it wearies of its dismal task. The face bears an infernal frown; it shows a picture of mixed emotion, a child lost in a churning ocean, it hungers to hear the laughter of a clown. The mask bears an eternal smile; it shows a picture of careful planning, covering a face of selfness damning, acting its part and using its guile. And when you look you see the mask; to the one beyond ... it's bloody lace, for there behind it sits a face, fearing all the horrors you might ask. There is a face of confusion, behind a mask of delight; one is dark ... one is light, can you see through the illusion?
