Altar of LegalismA Poem by JJ EscobarA description of an image that came to me when I was talking with a friend on how legalism was killing my soul and its fruits were being harvested in my life.Have you ever seen something so evil? An image that makes you so sick A scene so disgusting you feel feeble Will you face it or run? It's your pick Look as the creatures come into form Antlers with points that puts stags to shame Gargoylesque in posture upon their platform Two figures like statues as they came into frame Angry faces like goblins that strike fear to the soul Aggressive in nature and ready to pounce Beware these creatures, your morality they seek to control Yet, it is their sanctuary you must denounce I ask while observing. Are these demons or goblins? I don't know. Or a reflection of my sins? A shrine of medieval nature their home Shrouded in darkness but visible with candlelight Among the Gothic columns their presence is shown Creepily paired with scarlet walls of Rome What are these monsters? What do they mean? They appeared when I faced the lies of legalism This image was like something of a dream Or their dual colors, a representation of a schism? Does one creature, black like obsidian, represent pure evil? Or the other, white like alabaster, represent deception? For a soul killing religiosity does bring upheaval This apparent vision has awed my perception Fear such a shrine full of irreverence and evil This is the unholy legalistic cathedral
