Prologue

(Heaven’s Descent)

“Get as many kids and women out of here as possible,” shouted a short old man at a group of younger men, “I have to go along with the other elders and at least slow this thing down.”

The young men scurried in different directions making sure that no one was in the area. They then split out further to check other places making sure the entire land was evacuated. The old man that gave them this command proceeded to run out in a direction different from any of the men he commanded. He eventually made it to a cliff and stopped with a look that signified his rather unfortunate situation.

“Damn it…The bridge to the mainland has been disrupted,” said the old man trying to figure out an alternative to his destination.

“Elder Rozain,” screamed a slender man with straight and short hair, “Thank the heavens you are ok. I haven’t been able to located Master Rozama, Serene, Moku or Roku.”

“Rokuza is checking to see what’s wrong with the Dragon Uni Law to see what is causing this catastrophe. As for my grandchildren….No one has seen Moku since this uproar started. Roku is in the main village helping his mother evacuate…I’d like you to go check on them, but before you do can you please take me to the mainland. Many of our stronger warriors as below the island buying some time.”

“I would be honored to assist you Elder Rozain,” said the slender young man as Rozain looked at him with a dissatisfied look on his face.

“Now come on Hex…You are a family friend. Your family has served directly under the Hozama sect of the Akaten clan for years. Hell your late father was like a brother to my own son. Many with the others, but between us no formalities are needed,” Rozain explained as he grabbed Hex’s hand to realize he was shaking, “It’s ok to be scared, but all will be fine. I know once this is all over we will see each other eventually.”

“…Thank you Elder Rozain,” Hex smiled as he closed his eyes as if to concentrate.

“…Again with the titles,” Rozain thought to himself as he shook his head, “Such a kind kid…..”

As Hex concentrated a small green tornado appeared below their feet and began to lift them off the ground and slowly take them to their destination.

Elsewhere, at the main village, many were still trying to evacuate, but many were also injured due to the wake of the catastrophe. Fortunately there were many available to heal those who were injured so that they could escape, but as time passed the morale began to sink low.

“DAMN IT!!! How in the hell are suppose to heal everyone in time,” yelled a man healing a woman with a broken arm as another woman sporting long sky blue hair placed her hand on his shoulder as if to soothe him, “….Lady Serene..”

“Now young healer…You know better than to lose hope. Hope is the source of power to use the healing properties of the blue dragon. We may not be able to go the front lines and fight, but we are the foundation of our clan,” Serene stood proudly as her words projected to the village as if to lift the sprints of everyone within an ear shot, “Even in the mist of uncertainties we of the Akaten clan always stay strong.”

The morale instantly picked up as the healers began to heal faster and more potently and those evacuating began to move faster. The man Serene has placed her hand on gave her an assuring nod as he finished healing the woman with the broken arm, “Thank you Lady Serene…You are definitely the light that cannot be shunned.”

“My mother is the best isn’t she,” said a young boy holding onto Serene’s hand with a big bright smile, “What can I do to help mommy?”

“Your presence gives me enough help to be able to do what I do.”

“Ah come on ma! I really want to help…What are the group of blue dragon users doing…or maybe the yellow dragon users?”

“The blue dragon users are either healing or creating an icy slope to the mainland, depending on their skillset. The yellow dragon users are just scattered helping those under the island or helping those evacuating….but you aren’t skilled enough to be of services yet Roku.”

“Really!!! But I thought I was special?! Where’s dad…maybe I can help him,” Roku said as he noticed that his mother’s smile slowly transformed into a troubling frown, “What’s wrong mom…”

“It’s best to leave your father alone…He has a very important task and the success of this task could be the deciding factor of our fate,” Serene said as she began to look even more troubled.

“You’re worried about dad? Don’t be…Dad is the best and can definitely do anything. If our fate is in the hands of father than we have nothing to fear.” Roku said with the most assuring smirk on his face.

“I surely hope you are right Roku,” Serene said returning the smile before it being interrupted by a violent shake of the ground followed by the land they stood on slowly tilting to the side, “Sweet heavens…What has happened?”

“Attention! The elders below have sent me here to inform everyone that they cannot continue to hold the island…We don’t have much time…If we do not all evacuate immediately we will all….ACK,” yelped the man as the titling island caused him to be impaled by a wandering stake.

“Mom! We have to help him…what is going on,” Roku began to panic as he noticed that pieces of the island were breaking apart.
“Lady Serene,” screamed Hex as he arrived on the scene, “What’s going on?!”

“I am not sure but it seems as if the elders below can no longer hold the island…I don’t have much time,” Serene said as her demeanor changed instantly, “Hex….What were your orders from my dear husband.”

“To make sure Roku was safe until fate met up with him,” Hex said with a displeased look on his face, “He was very cryptic about it…”

“Then there is simply no other way,” Serene said as her look became more intense, “There isn’t much time...Everyone! Stop healing and begin to carry anyone injured. Do whatever you must to get off of this island. Roku….”

            “Yes mommy….”

“I have to do something extremely important...In fact this task may cause me to be away from you for a very long time,” Serene began to explain to her son as her eyes began to water, “I love you so much and I know you will live on to carry the Hozama name and be the pride of Akaten. Your dad also loves you so so much. Hex is about to take you somewhere safe away from all of this. Promise me you will keep the Akaten name high in your heart.”

“….Mom,” Roku whispered as tears begun to roll down his face, “What are you saying?”

“It’ll be ok Roku,” Serene said as she held her son tight leaving Roku stunned, “Like I said...You are the pride of the Hozama family and more importantly the source of the Akaten pride. No matter where you may be…Your father and I will always be there to guide you.”

“But…mom…what…are…,” eventually Roku speech became slurred before he slowly fell asleep.

“You used your powers to put him to sleep,” Hex asked as he picked up Roku and put him over his shoulder, “Such a kind mother…”

“Hex…Do exactly as Rozama told you. Keep my son safe…I have a feeling that this may be Akaten’s downfall, but we will still need to rise to any occasions,” Serene said with a sorrowful look on her face but with a feeling of duty.

“Lady Serene...I will do my best…You take care.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------

That was the last I ever saw of my mother…The last I saw of my sweet homeland. The last I saw of a light I figured would have shined until the end of eternity. It has been seven years since that day and I hold it dear. As my mom said, I hold inside me the pride of Akaten and that flame will never die in me. I mean Hex wouldn’t let that happen anyway…He can be strict but he has been a great mentor….Well back to the same old same old…I need plenty of sleep tonight. I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be…How should I put this…unpleasant.

This is a draft as in there may be grammatical errors. I believe I fixed the obvious ones but fell free to point them out, but ignore them as far as telling me how good the actual story is.
