PrologueA Chapter by Jinny LeeI huffed as I ran down the long, dark alleyway. I heard several silent footsteps behind slowly getting louder as they catch up. I take a turn and find a dead end. “She’s here!” I look for anything, something to protect myself with. I know the last option would not be pretty. A dark figure comes down from the corner and smile. “Ah, Adria. It’s good to see you again.” The figure walks closer and reaches with its hands? I look closer and see blood dripping from his fingers. I cringe away from him, “S...stay back..” I felt my heart pounding in my head, the cold winds cut through my tattered clothes. Tattered? Why was is tattered… I stop, the walls pressed against my back. I curl into a ball. The man pauses and looks at my face. “Adria?” “N...nn...no… stay away… who are you… who..who am I?” The man looks back at his accomplices, he nods and barks and order in a weird voice and his men back off. I shudder at his strange voice, it sent chills down my back making me cringe even farther. The man turns back towards me, “Adria, it’s okay. I won’t harm you.” “What do you want? Why were you chasing me?” He sighs, “I can’t tell you here. There are… others… coming after you. They won’t be so caring.” A deep howl strikes across the silent night. I strangely felt warm despite the cold weather. The man looks frustrated, “Please, we need to go… now!” The man holds out his hand looks painfully at me. I look up and his eyes, his brown eyes seem to grow darker every second. I slowly reach my hand when the man’s face turns to terror and he coughs. I felt the blood spatter on my face, I withhold a scream as I see his men drowning in blood as well. Another figure looms over one of his men, I saw his face bloodied from his feeding. He looks up and howls at the full moon that illuminated the cold night. I try to get up, my heart pounded so loudly it felt as if it had tore open my body and beating out in the open. I stumble and try to run back the way I came but I felt a sudden pressure near my neck. As everything begun to burr and darken, I saw the night sky so full of stars it looked as if the black cloth was ambushed by a couple of kids with a pen-sized needle. Just before my eyes shut, I heard a certain voice in the background and caught some of the words. "It's....safe....now...."
